WINEMAKER’S NOTES:
100% Edna Valley Pinot Noir, aged in once-used French oak. According to the winery: “When we say Fossil Point rocks we mean it! Calcareous shale and coarse sand were uplifted from the floor of an ancient ocean and then weathered into place over millennia. It became a place of vast potential. Fossil Point is a rugged headland stretching from Port San Luis to the Guadalupe Dunes. The Point is just five miles due west of the vineyards that are its namesake. Sunny afternoons are cooled by marine breezes sweeping off the Pacific Ocean, along Fossil Point to the vines and grapes. The result are grapes perfectly ripened balancing acidity. The 2020 vintage was generous, with ripe dark plum and berry flavors, orange peel, and a rich smooth palate feel. Careful use of French oak frames the wine without obscuring herbal scents of marjoram and black tea. Balanced acidity and texture, this wine is a superb partner at the table that will pair well with slow-cooked pork belly, roasted duck or miso-glazed Black Cod.”
